Take a classic journey through the warm scented lands of South India. The south
is a cross road of many temples, palaces, museums and churches. In spite of
the seeming similarity, each State of South India has different scenery, festivals,
architecture and subtle cultural variations, which a re reflected in their beautiful
temples. Although battered by the destructive forces of time, weather, and invading
forces, the temples of South-India remain as the greatest legacy of their ancient
history.

were frequent. South Indians hail from Dravidan's race. Most of the South India
Temples have the Dravidian style of architecture in which the tower crowns the
innermost sanctum of the temple. Thousands of temples with lofty towers dot
the skyline of the south India. These temples are torch bearers of the glorious
heritage of this region, and are archives of the wonderful art forms that evolved
over several centuries. Several of these temples have been glorified by the
ancient hymns of the 1st millennium CE.

These
ancient architecture were made by great kings of the Pallavas, Cholas,
Pandyas and Vijayanagar rule. They have been the greatest of temple
builders. Temples from the pre Christian era as well as those from the 20th
century exist in this state, where the ancient rulers have made outstanding
contributions to the growth of these monuments of great artistic value. The
most ancient temples were built of brick and mortar. Up-to about 700 CE
temples were scooped out of rocks.
Few of the famous South Indian Temples are Tirupati Temple, Badami Cave Temples,
Chamundi Temple, Kanchipuram Temples, Mahabalipuram Temples, Tanjore Temples,
Birla Mandir, Meenakshi Temple, Sabarimala Temple, Rameshwaram Temple, Somnathpur
Temple etc.
