Chitrakoot is a symbol
of Faith that wrapped with innumerable temples and filled with the
reverberating sound of bells. Chitrakoot is truly an abode of Gods,
situated in Banda District of Uttar Pradesh on the shore of Mandakini
river. As per Hindu Mythology, during the fourteen years of exile,
lord Rama, with his wife Sita and brother Lakshman came in Chitrakoot
when they brought in close contact with sage Atri and Sati Anasuya
in the solitude of its forests. Chitrakoot Dham is one of the most
ancient holy pilgrim centers of India placed at 285 km from Lucknow
and 120 km from Allahabad, bears an latitude of 25 10’N and
longitude 80 53’ E, on the road from Banda to Allahabad.

Kamadgiri
is believed to be the original Chitrakoot, a forested hill of prime
religious significance. Bharat Milap temple is popular for performing
ritual circumambulation of the hill to seek blessings. Sphatik Shila
is majestic spot of two immense rocks is said to be the rest of
Lord Rama and Sita where they feasted their eyes on the serenity
of Chitrakoot. Hanuman dhara rests on a steep hillside is marked
by waters of a natural spring pour over an image of Lord Hanuman.
Ram Ghat is one of the frequently visited sites of Chitrakoot; there
remains an amazing performance of aarti. Janki Kund is visited for
the significance of the bathing spot of Sita.
A huge accumulation of temples of Chitrakoot witnesses a calm visit
for the worldwide traveler Gupt Godavari, Bharat
Koop, Sati Anasuya, Rajapur, Ganeshbagh, Kalinjar,Sitapur, Sati
Anasuya, Rajapur and Marpha are prominent among them. Sited on the
bank of river Paisuni (Mandakini) Chitrakoot is a tranquil retreat,
this abode of the gods is credited to have seen the incarnations
of Brahma, Vishnu and Mahesh. Now Chitrakoot is a center
of prime religious significance for being blessed with the scared
touch of Lord Rama’s feet.
